Accomplishments!

Total monetary grants and contributions awarded since August 2015:  $100,000

The following are examples of what TAG does every month of every year since 2015.  In 2020, during the pandemic, we began filling the Litte Free Libraries all over town.  This year, we are filling the Help Shelf Pantries every other week in addition to pantries at Senior Living Facilities.

We are proud to announce that we will hit a milestone in August 2021 - $100,000 in grants written and other financial assistance provided.

And we do all this with a very small staff  of two store employees and a donation pick up and delivery person.

We use facebook to post most of our accomplishments.  Please "like" our page  - Community Thrift Market.

Fourth Quarter 2016 Accomplishments

Stay tuned for updates... our 4th Quarter Grant Distribution Dinner is February 2nd.

Tallahassee Action Grants, Inc. awarded $825  total in "Share Day and "Round up for Rescue" proceeds to Companion Animal Rescue Endeavor and Tallahassee Senior Center.   We sponsored North Florida Rescue's Take Me Home Adoption Event for $500, purchased over $300 in costumes for Making Light Productions, sponsored the monthly PACE Center for girls "School  Spirit" award for $500 and donated $100 each to Black Cats and Old Dogs and Sharing Tree at their October events.

In October 2016, our Non-Profit of the Month, Companion Animal Rescue Endeavor - CARE,  brought their adoptable pets to our market every Saturday and on October 20th, Dr. Sondra Brown gave a informative Lunch and Learn discussion on Interpreting Dog Behavior.

November was "Senior Citizen Month" for TAG.  Tallahassee Senior Center was our "Non Profit of the Month."   The Sunday before Thanksgiving, TAG sponsored a bicycle race called "Cranksgiving" at the market. The winner of the race was the cyclist who collected the most  non-perishable food within a time limit.  They collected OVER 900 pounds of food.  It was sorted and put in hand sewn bags from the Rags2Bags program of Sustainable Tallahassee.  On Thanksgiving morning, the cyclists delivered the food to their Meals on TWO Wheels clients by bike.  We also held a brunch for the seniors at Lake Ella Manor and gave 25 seniors bags of food.  The remaining 25 bags were

delivered to Miccosukee Hills Senior Community.  Our donations fully stocked both of their pantries.

The Florida Wild Mammal Association lost almost 300 feet of fencing around their deer enclosure during Hurricane Hermine.  In November, we held an online fundraiser for them and with our match awarded them a check for $1500.

December was a busy month.  On the 12th, we hosted the Green Holiday Shopping Extravaganza on the grounds of The Market.  This event featured upcycled and recycled holiday gifts for sale by green vendors.  It was co-sponsored by our partner Rethink Energy.   We sponsored "Breakfast on the Chain" a donut and coffee event for morning bicycle commuters on December 17th.  We raised and matched almost $1000 during our "Gift of Giving" online fundraiser for Cauzican Care and Lee's Place.  We also donated a bicycle, doll and stroller to a child from the Serve Tallahassee to be delivered by Santa on Christmas morning.

Over 200 pounds of pet food and supplies was collected for Cauzican Care and 300 pounds for Manna on Meridian Food Bank.

Third Quarter 2016 Accomplishments

On August 15, 2016, Community Thrift Market celebrated it's One Year Anniversary with an epic Customer Appreciation Sale and the TAG Grant Distribution Dinner where they awarded sustaining support  grants of $3,000 split between Lee's Place and Cauzican Care Animal Rescue.

During the quarter, TAG awarded an additional $1,137 total in "Share Day" and "Round up for Rescue" proceeds to Crossroads Shih Tzu, Hartsfield Elementary and St. Francis Wildlife.  We issued an emergency grant to Big Dog Rescue to fund their efforts in Louisiana after a record flood.  Our $500 grant paid for their transport van to deliver pet food to flooded rescues and return with dozens of rescue pets whose facilities were flooded.  This quarter was a tough one weather wise for Tallahassee also.  Hurricane Hermine hit and devastated our wildlife rescue partners.  We awarded $300 emergency grants to both St. Francis Wildlife and Florida Wild Mammal Association to help them handle the hundreds of incoming orphan animals and to rebuild their facilities.

On August 25, we were thrilled to host the Hartsfield Elementary Guernica Peace Murals and meet teacher Wafa Elsaka for an evening fundraising reception.  Our support helped Ms. Elsaka travel to Japan with the murals.  As school started in September, we collected, purchased supplies over $300 and assembled complete school supply kits for thirty five students associated with our partner Livingstone International.  We were also able to donate a guitar and two amps to Pyramid, Inc., a school for adults with learning disabilities, for their band The Electric People.  This guitar compliments the bass guitar we gave them in May.   Our partner, Black Cats Old Dogs Pet Rescue,  found themselves in dire straights so we purchased $250 in dog food to tide them over.  We also made a $100 donation to VOCAL at their fundraiser.

Over 200 pounds of pet food and supplies was collected for Crossroads Shih Tzu and 300 pounds for Manna on Meridian Food Bank.  We also continued our relationship with Rags to Bags by braiding over 400 handles for reusable shopping bags.

It was a successful quarter with over $6,100  in grants, other monetary awards and supplies distributed.

Third Quarter 2015 Accomplishments

On October 7, 2015 Tallahassee Action Grants, Inc. awarded $3,000 to our bedrock non-profits, Lee's Place and Cauzican Care Animal Rescue.

We know that these funds will be put to good use in our community.

During the quarter, we also collected almost 100 pounds of food for Manna on Meridian Food Bank, pet food for Cauzican Care, six big boxes of school supplies for Hartsfield Elementary's incentive program, furniture to ECHO and several truck loads of merchandise for City Walk Thrift.

Community Thrift Market also donated our space and volunteers to Sustainable Tallahassee for their "Rags to Bags" program - a program that makes reusable shopping bags from donated scrap materials.  Recycling at it's best!
